What is consumer law?
Consumer law covers a broad range of legal issues that affect consumers, such as consumer fraud, investment fraud, identity theft, warranties, product safety (including food and drug safety and products liability), debtor rights, and many others. Consumer law is designed to protect the consumer from deception (such as palpably false information about a product or service) and coercion.
Consumer law places restrictions on businesses advertising and selling products or services to consumers. For example, consumer law forbids creditors from discriminating against an applicant for credit on the basis of race, sex, religion, color, national origin, marital status, or for receiving public assistance. It also grants consumers various rights, such as the right to privacy. Consumer law is commonly referred to as "consumer protection law," reflecting its intended function.

For example, Calitics blogger David Dayen filed constant updates throughout the process, and it helped to explain what was going...

See In re Shoulder Pain Pump--Chondrolysis Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 1966 (8/11/08). On the surface, the denial may have seemed surprising in that suits had been filed in eight different federal district courts, and the plaintiffs all claimed that the direct...

While he certainly isn't the first, he was arrested at his house near Los Angeles by the FBI on accusations of uploading nine unreleased Guns N' Roses songs. If convicted, he faces a maximum three years imprisonment under the Family...

Rumor has it that Chrysler is looking for a buyer for its Dodge Viper division. The hand-built sports car attained a lot of high praise since it's debut at the 1989 Detroit auto show and Chrysler has made about 25,000 of the hot sports cars since it came out in 1992 but its sales peak was five years ago and it's been waning ever since. Calling its move a "strategic review" of the Viper division, potential buyers were not disclosed. The 600 hp supercar is built in Detroit and production employs...
